Nurturing Early Foundations: The Preschool Program at St. Peter’s College of Ormoc, Inc.
Since its founding in 1914, St. Peter’s College of Ormoc (SPC) has recognized early childhood education as the cornerstone of human development. In fact, the institution began its 110-year legacy by offering the Cartilla for Kindergarten, establishing itself as a prestigious bulwark of Christian education from its very inception. Today, as part of the PAASCU Level II Accredited Basic Education Department, the SPC Preschool program provides an elite, values-integrated start for the youngest learners.
A Curriculum of Holistic Excellence
Managed by the Archdiocese of Palo and guided by the motto “In Faith, We Learn; Through Service, We Lead,” the preschool curriculum is meticulously structured to balance academic rigor with spiritual growth. The program is divided into three critical stages:
• Nursery 1: Focuses on initial socialization and fundamental concepts in Christian Living Education (CLE), Reading, Language, and Mathematics.
• Nursery 2: Expands the core subjects to include Filipino, ensuring a culturally responsive foundation that honors our national heritage.
• Kindergarten: The final preparatory stage before elementary, reinforcing cognitive and spiritual competencies through a multi-disciplinary approach.
Social and Moral Formation (The SPCian Identity)
Unique to SPC is the emphasis on Deportment, which accounts for 30% of the honors computation for Nursery 2 and Kinder students. Preschoolers are not only evaluated on scholastic grades but also on their growth in five core behavioral areas:
1. Helpfulness (20%)
2. Social Grace (20%)
3. Kindness & Consideration (20%)
4. Respect & Politeness (20%)
5. Attendance & Punctuality (20%).
This ensures that learners grow as inner-directed and responsible members of society, embodying the Benedictine spirit of “Ora et Labora” (Pray and Work) from an early age.
A Safe and Conducive Learning Environment
SPC prioritizes the safety and well-being of its youngest “SPCians.” The campus is equipped with comprehensive Health Services, including a Medical-Dental Clinic with a full-time nurse, and a Student Assistance Center for guidance. Furthermore, the school’s Child Protection Policy ensures a secure environment where children are protected from all forms of abuse and violence.
