Empowering Future-Ready Leaders: The Junior High School Experience at SPC

The Junior High School (JHS) program at St. Peter’s College of Ormoc, Inc. (SPC) serves as a critical gateway, bridging foundational education with the specialized professional paths of the future. As Leyte’s oldest Catholic school, SPC has entered a “New Era” under the management of the Archdiocese of Palo, offering a JHS experience that is both historically grounded and globally competitive.

Innovative Academics: Robotics and 21st Century Skills

While the lower levels focus on foundational literacy, the JHS curriculum is designed to synchronize instruction with global standards. SPC distinguishes itself through a progressive Robotics and Computer Science track from Grades 7 to 10:

  • Grade 7 & 8: Students move from Microsoft basics to robotics, learning to conceptualize and create simple bots.
  • Grade 9 & 10: The curriculum advances to Programming and Python Coding, alongside specialized electives like Trigonometry and Basic Accounting.

Our academic quality is validated by PAASCU Level II Accreditation, ensuring that students receive instruction that meets high national standards. Additionally, SPC offers the ESC Grant for Grade 7, providing financial support to help families access this premium education.

A Compass of Values: The SPC-O Core Values

At this pivotal age, students are guided by the eight SPC-O Core Values, which serve as the foundation for their character development. JHS students are encouraged to move beyond simple obedience toward becoming agents of change. These core values include:

  • Faith & Humility: Anchoring education on Catholic values and recognizing a dependence on God in the spirit of “Ora et Labora” (Pray and Work).
  • Integrity & Excellence: Upholding honesty and striving for the highest standards in academics and leadership.
  • Innovation & Global Competence: Embracing creativity and technology to thrive in a diverse, interconnected world.
  • Service & Social Responsibility: Cultivating compassion and a commitment to the common good through community engagement.

Every SPCian is formed under the school motto: “In Faith, We Learn; Through Service, We Lead” (In Fide Discimus; Per Servitium Ducimus).

Student Leadership and Social Awareness

JHS is a time for active exploration. Students participate in the Supreme Student Government (SSG), which acts as a voice for the studentry and a partner in school decision-making. Beyond the classroom, our socially-oriented framework involves students in work with the marginalized, fostering a deep sense of social responsibility and nationalism.

Students can further hone their talents through specialized clubs, such as:

  • Academic Clubs: Lingua Franca, Mathrix Circle, and the Earth Savers’ Club.
  • Performing Arts: SPC Chorale and the Dance Club.
  • Special Interests: Boy Scouts of the Philippines and the Red Cross Youth.
